Building a Better World

All of our work at IEEE is in service of our mission: To advance technology for the benefit of humanity.

Our Humanitarian Work Aims to Engineer a Better Future

IEEE supports member- and volunteer-led programs that apply technology to address global challenges. In keeping with the IEEE mission of advancing technology for the benefit of humanity, IEEE Humanitarian Technologies provide the resources, partnerships, and tools for developing and deploying innovative solutions to advance sustainable-development goals globally while achieving social and environmental impact locally.

IEEE members and volunteers combine vision and philanthropy into action, working to solve global challenges and fund projects that create meaningful impact. From our humanitarian outreach to climate change initiatives, we use our collective expertise to drive technology forward and build a better, more sustainable world.

This global network of IEEE volunteers partners with local organizations to leverage technology for sustainable development.

Bringing together engineers, educators, and volunteers, IEEE Smart Village uplifts energy-impoverished communities with electrification and entrepreneurship.

IEEE’s mobile emergency-relief program assists victims of natural disasters with short-term communications and power solutions.

Focused on funding projects that address United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Tech4Good helps members use technology to address the needs of their local community.

The Empower a Billion Lives competition, an IEEE-PELS initiative, helps the global community create and demonstrate sustainable solutions for energy access that are technically and economically viable—and can rapidly scale to impact the more than one billion people around the world who live in extreme energy poverty.

EPICS in IEEE empowers students to work with local service organizations to apply technical knowledge to solve a community's unique challenges. Through service learning projects, students enhance their practical engineering and professional skills, preparing them for their future engineering careers.

IEEE REACH provides teachers and students with educational resources that explore the relationship between technology and engineering history and their complex relationships with society, politics, economics, and culture. REACH offers a one-stop shop of resources that bring the history of technology and engineering to life in the classroom.

IEEE Foundation: The Heart of IEEE’s Global Charitable Giving

As IEEE’s philanthropic partner, the IEEE Foundation turns the contributions of IEEE members and donors into social impact, advancing our mission across the globe. The Foundation supports over 220 member-led initiatives—programs that improve access to technology, support future innovators, and enhance technological literacy. Learn how the value of your time, expertise, or financial support can help advance technology for the benefit of humanity. IEEE illuminates the possibilities by using technology to address pressing global challenges. Support our initiatives with a charitable donation to the IEEE Foundation.
