Global Public Policy
IEEE is a trusted voice representing technology professionals and their needs to governments around the world.
IEEE’s global public policy work centers on the mission of advancing technology for the public good. As the trusted voice for engineering, computing, and technology information, IEEE provides nonpartisan guidance to policymakers around the world—and gives members a platform to make their voices heard. Experts across the institute, including those in the IEEE Global Policy Caucus, IEEE-USA, and the IEEE European Public Policy Committee, share our expertise with international and regional governments on issues such as artificial intelligence (AI), energy, and communications.
Technology Policy for the Public Good
As the technology community's primary voice on public policy, IEEE works on the global and national stage with the United Nations, European Union, United States, and other governmental and policy organizations. We amplify our community’s expertise and help our members around the world engage with their governments on issues from quantum computing to the technology supply chain. Whether we’re working globally or locally, our mission is the same: To advance technology for the benefit of humanity.

The Voice of Technologists Around the World

IEEE’s efforts were outlined at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) and at the International Telecommunication Union symposium.
IEEE-USA Connects Members to the US Government
IEEE-USA promotes the careers and public policy interests of its members in the United States—over 150,000 engineering, computing, and technology professionals.
Connect with elected officials to discuss legislation and policy issues that are important to you and the profession.

How IEEE Members Help the European Union Shape Policy
The IEEE European Public Policy Committee (EPPC) gives a voice to our nearly 60,000 Europe-based IEEE members. It allows technologists to share their expertise with European Union (EU) government officials and stakeholders, on issues such as sustainability, artificial intelligence (AI), and energy.

Working to Make Standards More Effective
The IEEE Government Engagement Program on Standards (GEPS) provides resources and connections to help governments address technology policy issues. When governments join GEPS, they can work with experts to shape standards that impact policy, such as global interoperability, safety and sustainability priorities, and innovation tied to economic growth.
